This is the second meeting of the council. The first meeting held on November 13, shortly after the 36 ministers were inaugurated.

The meeting is expected to discuss the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) ahead of the final preparation of the 2016 budget.

At the weekend, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, the minister of budget and national planning, had told newsmen that the FEC would this week approve the MTEF, although he did not give a specific date.

According to sources in the presidency, FEC will now hold when there are pressing policy issues to discuss, unlike in the previous government when the cabinet met every Wednesday, The Guardian reports.

The source, who pleaded anonymity said: “FEC will no longer be all about awarding contracts but a serious discussion of policy issues and appraisal of ministerial performance. In the past decisions on such matters as purchasing of cooking stoves and waste bins were discussed at FEC.”
