Ayade promises decarbonisation of Africa

SEQUEL to his impressive outing at the recent world conference on climate change in Paris, France where he delivered an address as leader of the continent’s governors, Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade, has restated determination to decarbonise Africa.

Ayade, who spoke yesterday in Calabar at the formal commencement of the state’s bike carnival with the theme, “climate on change,” said over 200 bikers globally were participating.

“There is great concern for us to decarbonise Africa because the decarbonised process will lead to good business. So when we want to exploit our resources and develop Africa, we want to be conscious enough to ensure that we protect Africa and the climate.

“The 260 kilometre super highway and deep sea port will create a new economy for this state.

He continued: “I brought business angle to it (carnival) and Sani Dangote, my friends all over the world from Germany, Australia and Canada with their bikes are here and they are spending money. The carnival all over the years somehow has huge domestic participation with less spending. The carnival is to encourage tourists.

“The carnival has an international brand with 16 countries participating in this year’s carnival. Watch out for 2016, it will be something else completely. The only place to be in 2016 in Calabar for your Christmas is Calabar,” Ayade said.

The governor, who noted that he has “got the magic wand and when I put my hands on anything, success is the only answer,” rode on a special bike by Charios to reflect elegance and royalty.

He said yesterday’s event was a green carnival, adding that “all the countries present will plant trees here to fight climate change.”
