Crisis brews in Delta PDP over congresses

Crisis is brewing in Aniocha South Local Government Area chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) following alleged plans by some stakeholders to impose a doctored list of executives on party faithful ahead of the proposed ward and local government congresses.

A former council chairmanship aspirant for Aniocha South, Mr. Paul Okwufulueze who raised the alarm about plans to impose executive at the various wards was arrested following what he described as harmless advice to some stakeholders not to take the path of perdition by imposing leaders at the ward and council levels.

Although he had been granted bail, a suit of defamation of character has been instituted against him by the member representing Aniocha/Oshimili at the House of Representatives, Mrs. Ameachi Mrakpor who stated that the series of text messages she received from Okwufulueze impugned on her integrity.

Okwufulueze had admitted circulating the same content of text message to Mrakpor; Governor Ifeanyi Okowa; Senator Peter Nwaoboshi; state party chairman, Edwin Uzor; and council chairman, Isaac Anwuzia, advising the leadership of the party on the need to avoid impunity during the forthcoming congresses.

He alleged that Mrakpor decided to take it personal by bullying him and threatening to lock him up.
But in a swift reaction, Mrakpor told Daily Sun that she received series of messages that impugned on her integrity, adding that the frequency of the messages was very disturbing, hence she has to take action to correct the wrong impression already created.
Mrakpor said as federal lawmaker, she was yet to be notified of any congress of the party, adding that the various organs of the party were still meeting on how to reposition the party.

“PDP has not even come up with modalities for any congress. As you aware, the party is undergoing intense re formative process. Organs of the party are still meeting on the way forward.

“As a lawmaker at the national level, I should be among the first stakeholders to know if congresses are coming up but as I speak now, I do not know of plans for congresses let alone know the list of persons for ward and local government executive.
“He (Okwufulueze) was threatening tsunami, and the text message kept coming. I was not going to joke about my integrity, so I made a report at the police who invited him. I told the police that I wanted the case to be charged to court,” she said.
