President Muhammadu Buhari has signed  the supplementary bill authorising the executive arm to extend the implementation of capital allocations in 2015 budget to March 31, 2016, into law.

Making this disclosure in a statement yesterday, Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang, said the disclosure became important in view of constant inquiries from him by lawmakers and relevant agencies seeking to know the status of the bill forwarded to Buhari last week.

He said: “Further to several enquires and calls by legislators, institutions et al on the subject, we deem it appropriate to issue this release.
“His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari has assented to the 2015 Appropriation Amendment Act passed by the National Assembly on December 22, 2015, (extending the 2015 financial year to March 31  in respect of capital projects).”

The newly signed Act authorises the release of N556.9 billion from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation for continued implementation of capital expenditure contained in 2015 budget during this dry season.

The National Assembly last week Tuesday amended the 2015 Supplementary Appropriation Act shortly after the presentation of 2016 budget to the joint session of the National Assembly.

The motion amending the Act was moved by Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, during which he explained that the amendment would empower the government to make up for lost chances of executing relevant capital projects during the last dry season.
