PDP to boycott local govt elections in Zamfara

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State has said it would boycott Saturday’s local government elections in the state.

In a statement on Thursday the party's state chairperson, Senator Hassan Nasiha, said PDP had already filed a petition challenging the validity of the 2015 gubernatorial election which is presently before the Supreme Court Abuja.

The party said it decided to boycott the elections as it was organised by the state government agency, the Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC), which was constituted by Gov Abdul''aziz Yari.

The statement read: "The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State will not participate in Saturday’s local government elections.
"This is with a view to avoid giving recognition to the government which we are currently challenging its election and validity.

“I am using this medium to communicate to all members and supporters of the PDP across the 14 local government areas of the state to remain indoors, while the so-called local government election runs so as to maintain law and order in the state.
